The major repair of the elevated drinking water reservoir Krottenbach, near Nuremberg, built in 1973, started in June 2008. The water supply service Fränkischer Wirtschaftsraum (WFW) invested 5,7 Mio Euro in this repair measure which was finished in July 2009, thus ensuring the continued supply of pure drinking water to the major parts of Franconia.
The reservoir with 2 separate chambers has a volume of 60.000 m³ drinking water. Its dimensions of around 70 x 125 m are about the size of a large soccer field. The water chambers are up to 10,2 m high and are supported by 72 columns. In total an area of 33.500 m² was repaired.
After the removal of 10 – 15 mm concrete, the walls and ceilings were newly coated with the high-grade MICROTOP shotcrete mortar of KORODUR – in dry mix method. Also the flooring areas were carried out with MICROTOP products – firstly a 25 mm thick MICROTOP TW 5 layer for leveling and coverage of reinforcements was installed. Thereon the final coat with MICROTOP TW 3, the so-called sealing coat, 12 – 15 mm thick was applied and smoothed. In total approx. 3.000 t MICTROP products were processed.
