Worktops made from the multipurpose Rapid Set repair mortar MORTAR MIX are beautiful, heavy and modern. Vent the manufacturing process is different from most other materials used for countertops in kitchens. MORTAR MIX is not only used as a fast-setting repair mortar but can also be poured into a mould or formwork, so the design possibilities are endless.
To produce the kitchen worktop in a loft in Berlin-Moabit, firstly a formwork with a height of 6 to 8 cm was produced. MORTAR MIX was then applied in sections of approx. 2 m in length taking care not to create and joints. The material was then levelled over the outer profiles of the formwork and, to achieve the desired surface texture, the surface was treated with felt and scraper board as well as smoothing trowel.
After adequate water treatment and drying, the surface of the countertop was impregnated with a water- and grease-resistant and oil-repellent surface protection agent. Polishing the surface was not an option for the client, who wished to emphasize the pure concrete character.
