The access area to the Catania ferry port sustained considerable damage due to intensive use by heavy-duty vehicles. Over 2.000 containers are loaded and unloaded daily, causing depressions of up to 6 cm. In addition, direct exposure to saltwater from the sea has further stressed the surface.
Challenges:
Mechanical stress – High stress from heavy-duty traffic.
Environmental impacts – Continuous exposure to saltwater and salty air.
Surface deformation – Depressions of up to 6 cm that needed to be leveled.
Weather conditions – Outdoor application affected by wind and weather.
Solution:
For the renovation, NEODUR HE 65 Plus SVS 5, a high-performance industrial floor known for its high resistance to mechanical stress and salt exposure, was chosen. To control evaporation during processing, KOROCURE was applied as temporary protection against evaporation. The final after-treatment was completed with KOROTEX. These steps ensured optimal curing of the renovated surface.
Result:
Thanks to the careful selection of materials and the implemented protective measures, the access area of the Catania ferry port now presents itself as a robust and durable surface capable of withstanding high daily stress and environmental impacts.
