Stairs are traffic ways that are subject to high dynamic stress. In particular in outdoor areas, stairways have to withstand extreme abrasive stress caused by dirt and grit. From technical point of view, the stair nosing as the front part of the step is particularly exposed. Due to the ergonomics of the human foot, the stair nosing has to bear the greatest mechanical loads both when climbing and descending. Another cause of damage to stairways is the effects of frost and de-icing salt in winter.
In 2015, a damaged concrete stairway in Esslingen was repaired with the multipurpose Rapid Set repair mortars CEMENT ALL and MORTAR MIX. Even after six years, the stairs still look the same as they did on the first day of their repair!
Repairs with Rapid Set are sustainable both from economic and ecological perspective. The use of Rapid Set repair mortar reduces the CO2 footprint and conserves natural resources. Rapid Set cement generates around 30% less CO2 emissions in its production than conventional Portland cement.
